Meet Bob Graves, PLA
Owner and Landscape Architect
I’ve been a landscape designer for more than 20 years and am a registered landscape architect with the state of Tennessee. As a graduate of Purdue University’s top-ranked landscape architecture program, I got my start in South Florida where I designed landscapes for many high-end homes, master-planned communities and high-rise developments.
I spent five years with the landscape design division of Nicklaus Design, the golf course design firm founded by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. From my time there, I was greatly influenced by my work in places such as Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and others throughout the United States.
I’ve worked in Knoxville since 2009 and have gained a wealth of knowledge in landscape construction and project management. I’m well-versed in what it takes to design and build your project including time, materials and cost.
I also continue with my interest in landscape design for golf courses worldwide.
With my wife Julie, I’ve made East Tennessee my home, serving the community through positions with the Knoxville Tree Board, The American Society of Landscape Architects’ East Tennessee Chapter Board, and Keep Knoxville Beautiful.
We love the outdoors and sharing our appreciation of nature with you and the community.
Meet Julie Boggs, MBA
Owner and Director of Marketing
I’ve been a marketing professional for more than 17 years, and have a masters degree in business administration from East Tennessee State University.
I met Bob in South Florida where we worked together in the golf industry. Now, we call downtown Knoxville home.
Although I work part-time for Carex Design Group, I have a full-time passion for sharing Bob’s and my love of the outdoors with our clients, friends and family. Check out our blog or visit any of our social media channels — Facebook, Instagram, Houzz, and YouTube — to see how we’ve helped our clients enjoy their outdoor spaces.
Meet Cassidy Gupton
Landscape Designer
I have a bachelor’s degree in plant sciences and a minor in business administration from the University of Tennessee. While there, I focused on horticultural and used that in my landscape design courses.
My professional experience is in residential landscape design, specializing in planting design. While working for a design/build landscaping company in Knoxville, I learned the extensive work that goes into getting a landscape design installed, which has helped me consider installation during the design process. I’ve continued my education through ongoing professional development, becoming a Certified Tennessee Naturalist and as a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.
I enjoy volunteering at Seven Islands State Birding Park, with a focus on invasive plant removal as well as litter pickups for Keep Knoxville Beautiful.
Like Carex Design Group’s owner and landscape architect Bob Graves, I find design inspiration through travel and my love of nature. In addition, almost all of my hobbies — trail running, hiking, gardening — involve spending time outdoors, so I’m often exploring national and state parks and interacting with a variety of native plants and ecosystems, often with my husband, Peyton and our dog Maggie.
Meet Daniel Moriarty
Landscape Project Manager
I have more than 18 years’ experience in the landscaping industry with a bachelor’s degree in plant sciences from the University of Tennessee where I studied landscape design and construction.
My professional experience is in residential and commercial landscape design and construction, land and site development, and irrigation design and installation. I’m also a Level 2 Volunteer Forester through Trees Knoxville in addition to being licensed in lawn and landscape pesticide application and management.
I find inspiration for my work in function and performance. I believe that a landscape design should not only look great, but also enhance the experience a client has in their outdoor space.
I use my skills to promote efficiency and good communication for Carex Design Group’s clients, partner contractors and design team so that the construction experience is fun and enjoyable for everyone. When issues arise while managing projects, I don’t consider them problems so much as opportunities to create solutions.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, golfing and spending time with my son, Forest and daughter, Eileen.
Meet Hailey Wright
Landscape Designer
I have a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Landscape Design with a focus on plant sciences from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and I’m currently a member of the Tennessee Native Plant Society.
While in school, I completed an internship for a local landscaping nursery that offers landscape design services. That experience prepared me for my role with Carex Design Group by helping me explore my skills in computer drafting and plant selection while providing me practical experience in site surveys. The position also exposed me to landscaping sales and customer relations.
While my first duty is to provide my clients with designs that suit their style as well as the space, I gravitate toward naturalist designs and incorporate native plants wherever I can to support sustainability. Organized chaos is what inspires me the most. I am currently pursuing a Certificate in Native Plants from the Tennessee Native Plant Society and enjoy volunteering locally to remove invasive plants and restore native plant communities.
Outside of work, I stay busy with my very spoiled dog Duke (a Boxer mix) and stay active with boxing and daily walks. I am also continuing to expand my outdoor recreation through paddleboarding, hiking and exploring our great parks and greenways systems. In the evenings, you can usually find me reading somewhere with an obscene amount of caffeine in my bloodstream.
I try to bring a consistently positive and creative voice to the designs I work on for Carex Design Group clients.
Meet Chloe Mowry
Landscape Designer
I have a Bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Maryville College. After discovering how much I love plants and realizing I wanted exercise my creativity in my career, I also completed a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Tennessee.
In my 2+ years of professional experience, I’ve focused on designing master-planned communities and commercial landscape design for an engineering firm. It was that environment that helped me develop an understanding of landscaping codes and how to work within boundaries to maximize function and aesthetics.
I find design inspiration through my travels as well as walks with my dogs through various Knoxville neighborhoods. I often stop to snap pictures of landscaping ideas, plant choices and color palettes. It’s this focus on color that typically kick-starts my design process because I often choose a color palette first. Landscape design is like painting but with living color that that can be a little unpredictable!
I am constantly adding new hobbies but the hobbies that have been mine the longest are fiber art such as knitting, sewing, embroidery. I also love pottery, 3D rendering, baking, and floral arranging. I am drawn to hobbies that balance form and color, which pair very well with landscape design. Outside of work, you’ll find me traveling with my husband Aaron or going on an adventure with our two pups, Willa and Buddy. I spend most of my weekends working on one of my hobbies or searching for a new one.
